Observation and drawing are fundamental to all my work, whether from the human figure, the environment, or from architectural and other forms. I am also fascinated by the historical context of my subjects, and this often emerges through the final images. Working in graphite, charcoal, paint and printmaking; texture and mark-making always play a vital role.
Artist’s residencies in Ireland and Yorkshire, as well as the North Downs provide me with a rich source of subjects. My work has been exhibited both internationally and in the UK and Ireland; including Pallant House, Chichester, Belfast Printmakers’ Gallery and Rua Red Gallery, Dublin. My most recent exhibition ‘Solo’ was at Cranleigh Arts Centre was at Cranleigh Arts Centre April 2013.
After many years as a full-time teacher of Art & Design, including leading two successful art & design departments, I left full time teaching to develop my own practise and establish ‘Art-Ed’ to promote various art-related teaching enterprises. These range from workshops in schools and adult-education courses to art-education consultancy and private tuition. As a working artist, I am experienced in using and teaching a wide range of media, specialising in drawing, painting and printmaking.
